General Information
Our jazz band is an auditioned group consisting of mostly 7th and 8th grade musicians. These students rehearse together to learn and develop their skills in performing many forms of jazz including swing, rock, and some latin styles.
The Jazz Band represents Mason in school and community events, and performs in evening concerts and festivals. Rehearsals are from 7:15 to 8:00 a.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday beginning October 13.
Live auditions will be held October 6-8 in the band room and are open to all interested 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Audition material may be downloaded from this site or you may request a copy from Mr. Ronning. Students are asked to prepare the material to the best of their ability. After the auditions, students will be ranked according to ability within their group of instruments. The top performers will be chosen to fill the following positions:
- 2-3 Alto Saxophones
- 2-3 Tenor Saxophones
- 4-5 trumpets
- 4-5 trombones
- 1 or 2 of the following:
- Piano
- Bass
- Drumset/Auxiliary Percussion
- Jazz guitar (see Mr. Ronning for audition material)
